Driving Licence in Abbottabad: Requirements, Process and Timeline
The licence process in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is not complicated, but it is sequential, and each stage has its own paperwork. Here is the order it happens in, and where driving training fits.
Who can apply
You need a valid CNIC showing you are at least 18 years old. Applications are made in the district of your own domicile, so if your CNIC is Abbottabad, you apply in Abbottabad, and Mansehra residents apply in Mansehra.
There is no separate process for women. The same requirements, the same permit and the same test apply.
Documents for the learner permit
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Traffic Police require your valid CNIC, a medical certificate signed by an authorised medical practitioner, a paid fee voucher, and passport-size photographs. Fees are set by the authority and change from time to time, so confirm the current amount before you pay.
Applications are handled at licensing centres and Police Khidmat Markaz, where your data, fingerprints and photograph are captured and the computerised learner permit is printed. The province also offers a digital application route through its provincial services app.
The waiting period is the part people misunderstand
After the learner permit is issued, you do not go straight to the test. There is a waiting period of roughly 42 to 45 days before you return to the licence branch to book and sit it.
Many applicants treat this as dead time and then arrive at the test having barely driven. That is the single biggest cause of a failed first attempt. The waiting period is meant to be practice time, and it happens to be almost exactly the length of a 15 day or 30 day driving course.
What the test is checking
Not memory. It checks whether you can control a car calmly and carry out ordinary manoeuvres without hesitating: controlled starting and stopping, smooth steering, turning, reversing, parking, and reading road signs and traffic correctly.

After the test
Once you pass and complete the required verification, the licence is issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Traffic Police. The province provides online licence verification so you can confirm your class and expiry date against the official record at any time.
A point worth being blunt about: no driving school can issue a licence or guarantee one. Any school that tells you otherwise is selling something it cannot deliver. What a school can do is make sure you can actually drive by the time you are tested.
