From Admission to Driving on Your Own

Exactly what happens, in order — how admission works from your home, what the theory classes actually teach, and how the practical lessons build up. Seven stages, no surprises.

The Seven Stages

The same sequence for every course. What changes between the 7, 15 and 30 day courses is how long you spend on each one.

01

Admission at your door

Send one WhatsApp message with your name, city, area and the course you want. Once you confirm, the school car comes to your home with your female instructor: your admission is completed at your door, and your first lesson starts the same visit. You never have to travel to an office.

02

Choose your vehicle

Manual or automatic, car or two-wheeler. Agreed before your first lesson rather than decided by whatever is free that morning. See our training cars.

03

Theory classes

Road signs, markings and rules — plus the vehicle knowledge most drivers never get taught: what is under the bonnet, where each fluid goes, what the dashboard warning lights mean, and which small faults you can fix yourself at the roadside.

04

Controls and the basics

In a quiet area, with a female instructor. Cockpit drill, clutch, gears, moving off, braking, steering. Repeated until your hands and feet do it without your attention.

05

Manoeuvres

Turns, junctions, reversing, all four kinds of parking, hill starts and slope control — which matters on the roads in both Abbottabad and Mansehra.

06

Real roads

Ordinary local traffic, lane discipline, following distance, reading signs at speed, and dealing with other drivers rather than being surprised by them.

07

Licence and driving alone

We walk you through what the licence process requires and practise what the test checks. The licence itself is issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Traffic Police. See licence training assistance.

Online Admission — We Come to You

There is no office queue, no paperwork to collect and no journey to make. One WhatsApp message to 0313 053 6070 starts your enrolment, and the same conversation settles your course, your timings and which vehicle you want.

Once you confirm, the school car comes to your home with your female instructor. Your admission is completed there at your door, and your first lesson begins on that same visit — so the day you enrol is the day you start driving.

Every lesson after that works the same way. The car collects you from home and drops you back, free of charge, with the same female staff throughout. Nothing in the process — admission, pick and drop, theory or driving — involves male staff, which for many families is what makes the whole idea workable.

Send these four things

01Your name

02Your home address — the car comes there

03Which course: 7, 15 or 30 days

04Manual, automatic, scooty or bike

Then what happens

✓We confirm your course, fee and timing on WhatsApp

✓The school car arrives at your home with your female instructor

✓Your admission is completed at your door

✓Your first lesson starts on that same visit

That is all. If you prefer a form, use the contact page — it sends the same details to the same WhatsApp number.

Theory classes

Knowing Your Car, Not Just Driving It

Most driving schools stop at road signs. Ours goes further, because the moment that frightens a new driver is rarely a junction — it is a warning light coming on, or a tyre going flat, twenty minutes from home.

So the theory classes cover what is under the bonnet, where every fluid goes, what the dashboard is telling you, and which small faults you can handle yourself at the roadside. Not mechanic training — the things a driver should never have to phone someone about.

Under the Bonnet

What each part is, where it is, and how to check it. Taught with the bonnet open, not from a diagram.

Engine oil

The dipstick has a marked minimum and maximum. Check it with the engine cold and the car level: pull it out, wipe it, put it back fully, pull it again and read where the oil sits. Below minimum means top up before you drive.

Coolant and radiator

The reservoir is translucent with level marks. Never open a hot radiator cap — the pressure sprays scalding water. If the temperature gauge climbs, stop, switch off, and wait for it to cool before looking.

Brake fluid

A small reservoir near the back of the engine bay with min and max marks. If the level has dropped noticeably, do not top it up and carry on — that usually means a leak, and brakes are not something to gamble with.

Battery

Two terminals, positive and negative. Most no-start problems are a loose or corroded terminal rather than a dead battery. White powder on a terminal means corrosion; a wobble means it needs tightening.

Air filter

A boxed filter drawing air into the engine. Dusty roads clog it faster than the service book assumes, and a clogged filter costs you fuel and power.

Washer fluid and wipers

The easiest thing to neglect and the one you miss most in rain. Top the bottle up with clean water, and replace a wiper blade as soon as it starts smearing rather than clearing.

Fuse box

One blown fuse is why an indicator, a horn or the lights suddenly stop. Fuses are cheap, colour-coded by rating, and changing one takes a minute once you have been shown how.

Tyres and the spare

Pressure, tread and the spare wheel — plus where the jack and wheel spanner live in your car, because finding out during a puncture is the wrong time.

Fuel, CNG and Fluids

Which side the filler is on, what goes where, and what to keep in the car.

Which side, and which fuel

The arrow beside the pump symbol on your dashboard shows which side the filler is on. Petrol and CNG go in different places and are not interchangeable. Fill with what your car takes, never what is cheaper that week.

CNG cylinders

If the car runs on CNG, the cylinder has a certification and expiry date and the switch-over is done at low speed. Know where the switch is and what the gauge is telling you.

Reading the fuel gauge honestly

The warning light means find a pump, not drive another thirty kilometres. Running a tank to empty draws sediment through the system.

What to keep in the car

A litre of clean water for the radiator, a torch, the jack and spanner, the spare wheel inflated, and your documents. Not a long list, and it is the difference between an inconvenience and being stranded.

Dashboard Warning Lights

Red means stop soon. Amber means get it looked at. Knowing which is which is the whole lesson.

Oil pressure

Red. Stop as soon as it is safe and switch off. Driving on with no oil pressure destroys an engine in minutes.

Temperature

Red or a rising gauge. Pull over, switch off, let it cool. Do not open the radiator cap hot.

Battery / charging

Red. The alternator may not be charging. The car will run until the battery is flat, so head somewhere useful rather than far.

Brake warning

Red. Sometimes just the handbrake left on. If it stays lit with the handbrake down, treat it seriously.

Check engine

Amber. Not usually an emergency, but get it read rather than ignoring it for months.

ABS

Amber. Normal brakes still work; the anti-lock assistance may not. Leave more braking distance until it is fixed.

Minor Faults You Can Handle

Practised once, calmly, so the first time is not at the roadside in the dark.

A flat tyre

Park somewhere level and safe, handbrake on, loosen the nuts before jacking, jack at the marked point, swap the wheel, tighten in a criss-cross pattern, lower and re-tighten. Practised once calmly, it stops being frightening.

The car will not start

Check the obvious in order: is it in the right gear or park, is the clutch pressed, are the battery terminals tight and clean, is there fuel. Most roadside no-starts end at one of those four.

Overheating

Switch the air conditioning off and the heater on to pull heat away, pull over, switch off, wait. Top up the coolant only once it is cool.

A dead indicator, horn or light

Usually a blown fuse or a bulb. Both are cheap and both are replaceable at the roadside once you know where the fuse box is.

Wipers smearing in rain

Worn blades. Replace them rather than squinting through a smeared screen, which is a genuine hazard on a wet Abbottabad road.

When to stop and call a mechanic

Brake fluid dropping, a burning smell, smoke, a red warning light that stays on, a noise that changes with speed, or steering that pulls. These are not things to drive home on and hope.

Where we stop, deliberately

We teach checks and small roadside fixes, not repair work. Brakes, clutch, steering, suspension, electrics and anything involving fuel lines belong to a qualified mechanic. A driver who knows when to stop driving is safer than one who tries to fix everything herself.

The signs, markings and road-rule half of the theory is free to read on our driving theory pages, and you can test yourself with the free practice test.

How It Works — FAQs

How do I take admission at Maryam Driving School?

Send one WhatsApp message to 0313 053 6070 with your name, home address, the course you want and which vehicle. Once you confirm, the school car comes to your home with your female instructor, your admission is completed at your door, and your first lesson starts on the same visit. There is no office visit at any stage.

What do the theory classes cover?

Road signs, markings and road rules, plus practical vehicle knowledge: what is under the bonnet, how to check engine oil, coolant and brake fluid, where fuel and CNG go, what each dashboard warning light means, and which minor faults you can fix yourself.

Do you teach how to fix a car?

Not mechanic-level repair. We teach the things every driver should be able to do alone: check the fluids, change a wheel, replace a fuse or a wiper, recognise a warning light, and know when a problem means stop driving and call a mechanic.

Is theory taught separately from driving?

It runs alongside your practical lessons, because signs and vehicle knowledge make far more sense with the car in front of you. The same material is free to read on our driving theory pages.

Do I need documents to enrol?

Not to start learning. Documents are needed for the licence process itself — CNIC showing you are 18 or over, a medical certificate, fee voucher and photographs. See licence training assistance.

How soon can I start after admission?

Timings are agreed in the same WhatsApp conversation as your admission, so there is no waiting for an office appointment. Most learners start within two to three days of admission.

Are men involved at any stage?

No. Admission, pick and drop, theory and every driving lesson are handled by women.
